Welcome back to The Farrwood! My name is J.A. Farrwood, an upcoming author who writes historical fantasy targeting a ranged audience that grows from young adult to new adult over the course of a series. In addition, my planned genres include political science fiction, historical fiction, and new adult crime and suspense, but more on those books to come! All that to say, I have several novels in the works.
I would like to update you on what I have been working on the past year and a half. I realize my last blog post came on April 1, 2025, then no more. You would be forgiven to think this entire site was an April Fool’s joke! But I have been busy writing, editing, and rewriting my first novel. Well, the first novel that I intend to publish. Like every writer, I have a story or two that will never see the light of day! Here is the big update I wish to share today, and a spooky-season title drop:
*****I am currently writing the final draft of The Ghosts of Midsummer.*****
In medieval Ireland, Finn Gaelee is a thieving young friar haunted by his past. After encountering an outlaw in the woods, Finn leaves Galway with the notorious Folville Gang. But on their way to Dublin, Finn meets a magical wildman who challenges him to change his ways. In the midst of divine mystery and fiery rebellion, Finn learns a hard lesson about criminal life and must decide who he wants to be.

(Why is there a hairy man carrying a club in this post? Read my story to find out!)
I finished a draft that I believed to be final, but after feedback from a beta reader, I decided heavy rewrites were needed. That is where I am currently, about a third into my truly final draft. Then more beta readers, making last edits, and querying agents.
My dream has always been to traditionally release The Ghosts of Midsummer through a publishing house. However, I am committed to publishing my novel by the end of 2027. The plan is for it to be available to purchase by next Christmas. So if I am unable to find an agent or get trad published, the backup plan is to independently publish, likely through Amazon. Both trad publishing and indie publishing have their pros and cons, and I am excited to explore both options.
Thank you for your continued interest in this website, medieval history, and my writings! I appreciate your support and cannot wait to share my novel with you.
Thank you for reading this blog post! Peace be with you.
